Oklahoma women's basketball defeats Missouri 82-66 behind second-half surge

Here are the top takeaways from the win:

Raegan Beers is back

Junior center Raegan Beers had been out against Mississippi on Feb. 6 and Auburn on Monday due to an illness. Against Missouri, the center returned as one of the five starters and played a total of 26 minutes.

Beers brought aggression to the court and inside the paint. On defense, the center grabbed six rebounds, one block and had one steal while actively pushing herself in between the ball and the glass. By the end of the game, Beers had six points, seven rebounds and two assists. She also was perfect from the free-throw line, shooting two-for-two.

Turnovers are still a struggle

All season, Oklahoma has had trouble turning over the ball and allowing its opponents to score points off those turnovers. Despite doing well in the first half and only turning the ball over six times compared to Missouri’s nine, the Sooners still gave the Tigers nine points off turnovers.

When the teams last played each other on Jan. 16, Oklahoma had a total of 22 turnovers, allowing the Tigers to gain 18 points. In Sunday’s matchup, there was a combined total of 33 turnovers. The Sooners turned the ball over 15 times, giving up 19 points as a result. Not only is this the fourth lowest number of turnovers in a game but this is also under the team’s season average of 19.7 turnovers per game.

Second half turnaround

At the end of the first half, Oklahoma was trailing 44-40. The Tigers outplayed the Sooners, achieving four three pointers and making 17 of 27 from the field (63%).

By the start of the second half, the Sooners found its momentum and started to outplay and outscore the Tigers. In the third quarter, redshirt senior guard Lexy Keys was the top scorer, making two of three attempts from the floor, made two of Oklahoma's three pointers and went perfect from the free-throw line, going two-for-two. Keys finished the game with 13 points and one rebound.
