Takeaways
• Oklahoma continued to get into foul trouble. With four minutes left in the first quarter, there was an altercation between redshirt senior forward/center Liz Scott and LSU redshirt sophomore forward Sa’Myah Smith. The two received technical fouls and were ejected from the game after Smith pushed junior center Beatrice Culliton and Scott pushed Smith back in retaliation. As a result of being ejected, Scott will not be able to play on Sunday against No. 12 Kentucky. The game ended with a combined total of 53 personal fouls and both head coaches each receiving a technical foul.
• During the season, OU has struggled with turning over the ball and allowing its opponents to gain points off of turnovers. Oklahoma has averaged 19.3 turnovers this season and against LSU, the Sooners had 23 turnovers, allowing the Tigers to gain 22 points as a result.
• The Sooners started out the game with strong momentum. At the beginning of the matchup, Oklahoma held a solid lead for about 10 minutes. As the game progressed, the team slowly lost momentum, while LSU created a larger gap on the scoreboard. The Tigers top scorer, sophomore guard Mikaylah Williams, outscored Oklahoma’s top scorer, senior guard Payton Verhulst, by 11 with 37 points. In the second half, the Sooners fought to regain the lead. Despite outscoring LSU in the fourth quarter, OU was unable to bounce back and secure the win.
