Incumbent Helen Grant will remain in the Ward 4 city council seat after winning the race against OU professor Cindy Gordon Tuesday night.
As of 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, with 1,383 votes cast, Grant earned 60.45%, or 836 votes, according to unofficial results by the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website. Gordon earned 39.55%, or 547, of the votes.
Grant was first elected to the Ward 4 seat in 2022 and reelected in 2024. Throughout their tenure, Grant has advocated for the importance of mental health services and shown support for affordable housing efforts in Norman.
Grant will prioritize creating a permanent homeless shelter and expanding affordable housing options, strengthening public transit and walkability throughout the city, and solidifying the Griffin Master Plan, according to their website.

Grant wrote in a post on Facebook Tuesday night that they look forward to making progress on these issues.
"I want to thank Ward 4 for entrusting me to represent their interests once again," Grant wrote. "I look forward to making progress with my colleagues and constituents on Affordable Housing, (tax increment financing) Reform, Neighborhood Organizing, and meaningfully addressing homelessness and mental health issues as an inclusive community."
The Daily reached out to Gordon for comment but did not receive a response by the time of this article’s publication.
Grant will be sworn in July 7.
