OU men’s basketball landed a portal pickup late into transfer season Thursday afternoon in former SMU guard BJ Edwards.

Edwards averaged 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists over 28 games with the Mustangs this past season. Though his collegiate career seemed finished, Edwards was granted a fifth year of eligibility after a court hearing in Tennessee.

The senior began his career at Tennessee before transferring to SMU following his freshman season. Now, the veteran guard brings experience to Norman, continuing a theme of Porter Moser’s offseason roster construction.

Edwards joins fellow fifth-year senior guard Pop Isaacs, highly touted junior forward Khani Rooths, senior guard Tyler Hendricks and junior Yaak Yaak as part of the Sooners’ 2026 transfer class.

The veteran transfer group will look to get OU back on track after a 21-16 campaign that saw the Sooners narrowly miss March Madness as the first team left out of the field for the second consecutive season.
