OU Daily elected Ana Barboza as its summer editor-in-chief on Friday.

Barboza is a professional writing junior and currently serves as news editor for the Daily. She has worked at the Daily since August 2022 and has served as a junior news reporter and summer news managing editor. Barboza will serve as OU Daily news managing editor in the fall.

Barboza has written about Norman Public Schools and education, city developments and significant figures across the campus and community.

As summer editor-in-chief, Barboza said she wants to continue to improve OU Daily’s social media presence and promote dynamic methods of storytelling.

“I would like to train and prepare staffers to add more multimedia elements in their writing, whether this be maps, graphs, videos — anything that can enhance and lift up our stories,” Barboza said.

Barboza said she is excited to lead the newsroom in the summer and give back to a community that has long supported her.

“I'm so excited. I have so many emotions that I can’t put into words,” Barboza said. “My appointment into this position just goes to show how people can improve in this organization. I feel like everyone here just wants to uplift each other and are always pushing each other to success.”

Barboza will start serving in her position in May after the spring semester ends.
