The Norman City Council swore in new councilmembers for Wards 2, 4, 6 and 8 during its Tuesday meeting. 

Ward 4 Councilmember Helen Grant was re-elected to serve on the seat while Matthew Peacock, who served as Ward 8 councilmember, moved to the Ward 2 seat due to redistricting laws. 

NCS Multistage account manager Scott Dixon and community banker Joshua Hinkle will hold the Ward 8 and Ward 6 seats.

Last week, the council honored former Ward 2 and 6 councilmembers Lauren Schueler and Elizabeth Foreman for their dedication to serving the Norman community. Schueler stepped down to focus on her family and mental health. Foreman stepped down to run for the Oklahoma State Senate District 15 seat, representing Cleveland County and Norman. 

The council also appointed various roles, including a representative and alternate representative to the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments Board of Directors, a mayor pro tem, a representative and alternate representative to the Oklahoma Municipal League Board of Directors and a city councilmember to serve on the Board of Trustees for the City of Norman retirement system. 

Mayor Larry Heikkila was appointed as representative to the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments Board of Directors with Ward 7 Councilmember Stephen Tyler Holman serving as an alternate representative. 

The council appointed Hinkle to serve on the Board of Trustees for the City of Norman retirement system, taking Foreman’s seat. 

Heikkila was also appointed as a representative to the Oklahoma Municipal League Board of Directors, with Grant serving as an alternate representative. 

Peacock was appointed as mayor pro tem, which is responsible for curating meeting agendas and filling in for the mayor when necessary.
