OU to screen acclaimed film "Boyhood"

“Boyhood” follows the life of a boy named Mason as he embarks on his journey to adulthood. What makes this movie different from others is that Mason is played by the same actor throughout the character's life. The characters were filmed over this 12 year period, and throughout the film you see each one transform and age in humbling ways.

Written and directed by Richard Linklater, it’s no surprise that the film has such a unique edge. Linklater’s previous works include “Slacker,” a film about youth culture that earned praise at the Sundance film festival in 1991.

In “Boyhood,” we’re taken through the challenging times of Mason’s childhood, beginning in 2002, as seen through his eyes. Starring Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, the three make up a family rooted in conflict.

In a video on Rotten Tomatoes, Linklater describes the film as “one story made up of a lot of little pieces.” But Linklater and his team flawlessly piece together this coming-of-age story into a journey from childhood to adulthood.

Catch this movie Friday, Dec. 5 in the Meacham Auditorium as part of the Union Programming Board’s Film Series. For a full schedule of upcoming movies visit their website at www.ou.edu/content/upb.html.
