OU redshirt senior wide receiver Keontez Lewis was stretchered off the field after running full speed into the brick wall behind the north end zone in Saturday’s matchup against Kent State.

The play came on a second-and-goal attempt. Lewis chased down a pass from quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. in the right of the end zone, but his momentum carried him into the wall just beyond the boundary line. Afterward, redshirt junior Javonnie Gibson replaced Lewis at wide receiver.

The OU radio crew reported that Lewis underwent X-ray tests, which came back negative for any broken bones. Lewis was also reported to be up and walking around during evaluations. Lewis is being taken off-site for further evaluation out of an abundance of caution, according to a statement released by OU to radio broadcast.

OU head coach Brent Venables addressed the injury in the postgame press conference.

"The initial evaluation was good," Venables said. "He was alert, he was in some pain... based on the questions he was answering, (he) was very coherent."

Lewis dealt with an injury earlier in the season against Temple. He exited the game after sustaining a helmet-to-helmet hit while attempting to catch a pass. He returned to action the following week against Auburn.

On the year, Lewis recorded 17 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
