Oklahoma Sooners-Alabama football

OU football co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Zac Alley during the game against Alabama on Nov. 23.

Here is what defensive coordinator Zac Alley said after Oklahoma’s win over Alabama on Saturday.

On OU’s defense being prepared for Alabama

“I felt like our guys prepared with a lot of purpose, a lot of discipline. They knew the challenge of what Alabama presented today. … We had a few plays, in critical moments, where we’re in the exact calls we’ve worked on in practice and it came through. That’s always what you’re looking to see. I’m excited about that."

“I’m really proud of our guys for just accepting the challenge and really getting after it today.”

On Eli Bowen matchup up with Alabama receiver Ryan Williams

“That was the game plan. We tried to put (Eli) on (Ryan) every time we could because he was their go-to. … Eli did a great job. Obviously, coming up with the pick, I thought he was going to score. He’s gotta get better juke moves like Kip (Lewis)."

“The development, the way he prepares, he doesn’t look anything like a freshman in anything he does. He’s already a pro and it’s just exciting to see him grow.”

On OU fans storming the field

“It was really fun the second time. The first time, I was trying to get everyone off the field. I’m thinking, ‘They’re going to take their last timeout and we’ve got to go back out on defense.’ I’m looking around, half of my guys don’t have their helmets, everything is going crazy. The second time was really fun, though.”

On senior night

“I hugged Danny (Stutsman) when I came into the locker room, just told him how proud I was of him. Just to get a chance on senior night when it’s emotional already, everybody remembers that last game at home. To get that emotion out early, to perform like that, that makes it a great memory."

“Hopefully all of our guys will look back and just cherish that as something special they got to do their last time at home.”
