Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables confirmed that junior wide receiver Jayden Gibson is out for the season.

“We got one player that won’t be back,” Venables said on Tuesday. “And that is Jayden Gibson.”

Gibson reportedly suffered a knee injury during last Tuesday’s practice. He played in all 13 games during the 2023 season and had his first career start in the Alamo Bowl. Gibson grabbed 14 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

The loss to OU’s wide receiver room means players like seniors Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony, alongside redshirt junior Deion Burks and redshirt senior J.J. Hester, will have to step up in his absence.

“Jayden Gibson was going to have a big season,” Hester said. “Just to see somebody go down like that with such high character is a travesty.”
