Simran Sethi

Junior Simran Sethi prepares to hit the ball in a singles match. The Sooners played the University of Texas El Paso on the evening of Jan. 28 and left with a 6-1 win.

The No. 7 seed Sooners came out ready to play Thursday morning against the No. 10 seed Cyclones at the Big 12 Championship.

Oklahoma quickly grabbed the lead and never lost it, easily defeating Iowa State, 4-0, for the second time this season.

In doubles play, senior Simran Sethi and freshman Camila Romero struck first for the Sooners, sweeping 6-0 from the No. 3 line. Sophomore Jasmine Asghar and senior Christie Brigante followed suit, taking down court one, 6-2, and grabbing the doubles point.

Oklahoma did not let up in singles play. Ashgar was first to grab a singles point for the Sooners, winning handily in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3, from the No. 2 line. Minutes later, Sethi dominated on court six, 6-2, 6-2, giving the Sooners a 3-0 lead. No. 39 senior Lily Miyazaki sealed the 4-0 victory for Oklahoma on court one, 6-2, 6-3.

The Sooners easily move past Iowa State to advance to the next round of the Big 12 Tennis Championships in Austin, Texas.
