...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM CDT FRIDAY...

The following statement was issued by the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality.

An Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for Friday, August 28
for the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area due to expected high
concentrations of ozone.

Public Health Recommendations: Persons with existing heart or
respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor
activity.

The general public is encouraged to help alleviate the problem by
reducing vehicle miles traveled by riding the bus, carpooling, or
avoiding unnecessary trips. The public is also asked to avoid
refueling during the morning and early afternoon hours, and to avoid
the use of two cycle engines such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, weed
trimmers, and outboard engines. It is also advised to limit outdoor
burning.

Oklahoma (9-9, 4-3 Big 12) defeated Kansas State (11-7, 3-4 Big 12) Wednesday night 76-71.

The Sooners played strong offensively throughout the game as they shot 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the three-point line. The offense of Oklahoma is what ultimately won the game.

Senior guard Gabbi Ortiz led on offense with 20 points connecting on seven of her 13 shot attempts, including 6-of-11 from behind the arc. Senior center Vionise Pierre-Louis added on 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while freshman guard Shaina Pellington had 16 points to go along with six assists.

Defensively, the Sooners were not able to stop the Kansas State attack as the Wildcats performed well offensively shooting 47 percent from the field. Oklahoma, on the other hand, was able to out rebound Kansas State 33-27. 

As a team, the Sooners had 17 assists to go along with four steals and two blocks on the defensive side of the ball.

The Sooners will return home to play Oklahoma State at noon on Saturday.
