Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione announced Monday Tim Langford will no longer serve as OU’s track and field head coach.

Langford was announced as the Sooners’ interim head coach in August 2019 before being promoted in May 2020. Langford led the OU women and men’s outdoor track team to 75 regular season event victories, three Big 12 titles and 14 NCAA Championship qualifiers in 2021.

OU assistant coach of horizontal jumps Austin Davis will serve as the Sooners’ new interim head coach until Castiglione completes his national search, according to the release.

He has been with the program since 2019 and has over 10 years of experience in track and field. Since becoming an assistant at Oklahoma, Davis has coached 12 runners to 46 All-Big 12 honors, 18 players have made 29 NCAA first-round appearances and five athletes have garnered 12 All-American honors.

In 2023 alone, Davis’s horizontal jump group ranked second nationally in women’s long jump, sixth in women’s triple jump, eighth in men’s long jump and eighth in men’s triple jump.

Davis’s new role as interim head coach will go into effect immediately.
