Oklahoma senior pitcher Sam Landry made history Saturday, becoming the first ever No. 1 overall pick in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Draft. Selected by the Volts, one of four teams in the newly launched league, Landry headlines a 12-player class filled with some of the top collegiate talent in the country.

A transfer from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Landry has been dominant in the circle for the Sooners this season. The senior boasts an 18-3 record and a 1.97 ERA, anchoring a pitching staff that has helped keep Oklahoma atop both the ESPN/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA national polls as the team heads into the SEC Tournament.

The Volts made Landry their cornerstone pick as they prepare for AUSL’s inaugural season, which begins June 7 and will feature 24 games culminating in a best-of-three championship series July 26–28 at the University of Alabama's Rhoads Stadium.
