Now that Kyler Murray has signed his official contract with the Oakland Athletics, he is getting advice from a former dual sport athlete and current Binghampton Rumble Ponies outfielder Tim Tebow.
Ahead of Tebow's Double A game against the Hartford Yard Goats on Friday night, Tebow told the press what advice he might had for the No. 9 MLB draft pick and the Sooners' expected starting quarterback this fall.
"(I would tell him) to be locked in and focused," Tebow said. "If he’s coming back to play football, don’t give yourself an out. I think a lot of people always want to fall back, and they want an escape route, and he’s got one, but don’t take it."
Tebow said he expects Murray to be successful because of his work ethic.
"Go to work everyday as though football is your only goal — it’s your dream, right — and take that and pursue it and go win yourself a championship, then move on to baseball, but when you’re there, when your mind’s on it, focus on it and be all in," Tebow said. "I think he will be, from knowing the young man and seeing him work — I think he’ll be all in.”
Immediately following the draft, Murray made it clear that he will be returning to the Sooners in the fall and will forego his final year of eligibility to focus on baseball.
Murray will be introduced to the Athletics organization on Friday and taking part in batting practice. The Sooners' open the football season against Florida Atlantic at 11 a.m. CT on Sept. 1 in Norman, Oklahoma.
