Oklahoma basketball: Sooners trail Villanova 42-28 at halftime

HOUSTON — Junior guard Jordan Woodard comes down from a rebound during the Final Four game against Villanova April 2.

HOUSTON — After hot offensive starts by both Oklahoma and Villanova, the Sooners trail 39-28 in Saturday's Final Four semifinal.

Buddy Hield got OU going early with a three-pointer to open the game and both teams traded buckets for the first 11 minutes of the game before a scoring drought from the 12:31 mark to the 7:08 mark put the Sooners behind 28-17. 

OU's scoring drought was the result of careless turnovers which led to fast-break offense on the other end for Villanova. The Sooners finished with nine turnovers for the first half and the Wildcats had 20 points off those turnovers. Villanova also controlled the game in the paint early on, scoring 22 of its points down low.

None of the Sooners finished in double figures scoring. Hield led the way for OU with seven points. Villanova guard Josh Hart leads all scorers with 15 points.
