Carter Strickland, Student Government Association director of the interior, announced his candidacy for SGA president on Monday.

Strickland is running with SGA director of the exterior Avery Dunlap as his vice president, who also announced her candidacy on Monday.

“My family has been tied to Oklahoma for generations, but it wasn’t until I drove the 7 hours from Memphis to go to school here that I was able to call OU my home away from home,” Strickland wrote in an Instagram post.

According to Baylor Savage, SGA election commissioner, Strickland and Dunlap will be running unopposed. Students will have the option to fill out a “prefer not to vote” option if they don’t wish to vote for Strickland and Dunlap.

“As our University continues to grow, the students must remain at the heart and soul of its development,” Strickland wrote.

Dunlap wrote in another Instagram post she is excited to help improve student life on the campus that has given her countless opportunities.

“We hope to help every student feel at home here by enhancing the student experience and leading toward OU’s future,” Dunlap wrote.

According to Savage, Strickland and Dunlap must secure more votes than the "prefer not to vote" option in order to win. If they are unable to secure enough votes, another election would likely take place.

Students can cast their votes for SGA president and vice president by using ENGAGE on Oct. 29-30.
