OU’s Norman campus will suspend academic and campus operations on Aug. 30 for the first football game of the season.
Oklahoma football will host Temple University on Aug. 30, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to a Monday email, the university canceled classes and other operations on the Norman campus to accommodate traffic, parking and safety measures on the game day. Normal operations will resume Sept. 3 following the Labor Day holiday.
This game marks the start of the season OU will be in the Southeastern Conference, a move for the university and Norman have been preparing.
On Aug. 30, only essential employees should report to campus and follow game day schedules. For all other employees, there will be no remote work. Eligible employees will be granted administrative leave.
Certain campus parking lots must be vacated by 6 p.m. on Aug. 29. Lots designated for campus housing will remain accessible to students with housing permits. Commuter permits will also be valid in any paid lot on game days.
Campus Area Rapid Transit shuttles will run the normal game-day shuttle route. Regular CART routes and shuttles will not be in service. Certain roads near campus will be closed or restricted. More information will be available closer to game day, according to the email.
Details about game day operations such as tailgating policies will be announced at a later date.
With the exception of the Bizzell Memorial Library, the Oklahoma Memorial Union and campus dining, all Norman campus buildings not associated with game day operations will close at the end of normal academic operations on Aug. 29 and will reopen Sep. 3.
Additionally, Aug. 30 is National College Colors Day, according to the email. Students and patrons of the game are encouraged to wear OU’s crimson and cream colors during the day.
Classes at OU Health Sciences in Oklahoma City, OU-Tulsa or in online programs will continue regularly scheduled instruction, and employees will follow their regular schedules.
OU Health Sciences in Oklahoma City and the OU-Tulsa campus will operate on regular schedules.
