Sutton Hall

Sutton Hall on Oct. 10.

OU’s Sutton Hall is set to be demolished during winter break to be replaced by a new teaching lab classroom building.

OU issued a request for proposal for the demolition and site clearance of Sutton Hall on Sept. 24. The project is open for bidding until Oct. 28.

A construction bid is a formal proposal done by the contractor to compete for a project. The bid outlines the contractor's proposed cost, timeline and scope of work.

The building currently houses the department of biology, including faculty and graduate student offices, research and teaching laboratories, multi-user molecular biology core facilities, maintenance shops, the departmental stockroom, graphics and photography workrooms and computer rooms.

On Friday, the Daily sent an email to OU’s Marketing and Communications department inquiring about the demolition and received a response Wednesday confirming the project.

“The demolition of Sutton Hall, set for Winter Break 2024-25, will facilitate the construction of the new Teaching Lab Classroom building,” an OU spokesperson wrote. “The building demolition is out to bid, and no contractor has been selected yet.”

Demolition is set to begin on Dec. 16 and the timeline for completion of the project is still unclear.
