OU Daily earned a Silver Crown for overall excellence in the college hybrid news category in results announced Friday by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in New York.
The distinction marks the ninth consecutive year the Daily has earned a gold or silver crown, the highest honors given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Just two other college newsrooms — the Indiana Daily Student and The Ithacan — have equaled that streak. In that time, the Indiana Daily Student has eight golds, the OU Daily has seven and The Ithacan has three.
The press association defines publications that have live online coverage in addition to regular print editions as hybrid news competitors.
This extends the longest streak of consecutive gold or silver honors in the Daily's history.
No set number of crowns are awarded; rather they are awarded at the discretion of judges.
Work judged in this competition spanned the 2023-24 academic year in which Colton Sulley served as summer editor-in-chief and Karoline Leonard served as fall/spring editor-in-chief.
