Harrison Powers, a communications and political science junior, won the Campus Activities Council chair election Friday, according to unofficial results.
Powers received 878 votes, or 63.02% of the total vote, OU Student Government Election Commissioner Andy Wang wrote in an email to OU Daily. Opponent Cambell Hodge received 515 votes, or 36.97% of the total vote.
Powers, the current CAC High School Leadership Conference chair, ran on a campaign titled "Believe in HP,” which has three core values: growth, development and constitution.
During a forum at the Undergraduate Student Congress meeting Tuesday, Powers said growth in member numbers, as well as growth within areas of campus that aren’t as familiar with CAC.
“Of course, the university is seeing record-breaking enrollment numbers, and so making sure that CAC is able to match that as best as we can, while still maintaining enough roles for people,” Powers said. “That also involves growth within the areas of campus that aren't necessarily in tune with CAC.”
Powers also said it is important that athletics and Greek life become more involved with CAC on campus.
“I believe that I would do a lot of work to try to bring those students back to CAC, to get them involved on campus and a little bit outside of the chapters,” Powers said.
Powers said he wants to ensure all CAC members develop as leaders. Powers plans to adopt an official CAC leadership philosophy.
“Having an official leadership philosophy that we can take to organizations to go teach them leadership, I think it would be a great way that we can practice out what we preach,” Powers said.
Powers said he wants to involve more CAC members by giving them a voice in selecting event chairs.
“Whether it's OU Dance Marathon or whether it's Homecoming or Speakers Bureau, I believe our committee members should have a voice in that, and they have the best insight as to who the leaders are in that room,” Powers said.
Powers will succeed current CAC chair, Carlee Fort.
