State Rep. Jacob Rosecrants (D-Norman) won reelection for a fourth term in the House District 46 seat Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Alexander Torvi.
According to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board, as of 8:24 p.m., Rosecrants received 53.92%, or 10,208, of the 18,930 votes. Torvi received 46.08%, or 8,722.
Rosecrants told OU Daily he does not pre-write statements regarding wins or losses, adding it was due to “superstition.”
Rosecrants, a 30-year Normanite and OU alum, was first elected to the Oklahoma State Capitol in 2017, winning three reelections in 2018, 2020 and 2022, respectively. Before becoming a state legislator, he taught social studies in Oklahoma City Public Schools from 2012 to 2017.
Last month, Rosecrants said he originally ran to provide teachers a voice in the Oklahoma Legislature, adding he continues to run to improve Oklahoma’s public education under State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters.
“We still haven’t fixed our system. If anything, the majority of Republicans here elected a clear and present danger to our public schools, who is Ryan Walters,” Rosecrants said. “That's enough reason for me to keep going.”
