Robert Bruce won the election for the Ward 3 Norman City Council seat against Cullen Bieger Tuesday night.
As of 7:49 p.m., with 1,645 votes cast, Bruce received 70.76%, or 1,164 total votes, according to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board website. Bieger received 29.24%, or 481 total votes.
The OU Daily reached out to Bruce for comment, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
Norman City Council appointed Bruce to fill the Ward 3 seat in October after he was nominated by a candidate selection committee. Former Ward 3 Councilmember Bree Montoya resigned in September after screenshots of harmful comments resurfaced from her social media account.
At a League of Women Voters of Norman forum last month, Bruce said he considers his work on council a continuation of his public service in the U.S. Air Force and at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
“My life has been all about service, and I'll keep working hard for you day in and day out, 24/7, 365, …” Bruce said. “I’ll bring the same discipline I've had for 40 years of transparency, respect that has guided me for all those years, and the decades of public service is really what Norman needs and I’m here for that.”

Bruce will serve until July 6, 2027, completing Montoya’s two-year term. He will be sworn in again July 7.
