405 Burger Bar on West Main Street will close its doors on Jan. 31 after three years serving Normanites, the owner announced in a Facebook post Monday.
The restaurant 405 Burger Bar is also a sports theater. The space included large televisions and could be reserved on game days or rented for private events.
The restaurant started in Norman on George Avenue near campus in 2021. Less than a year later, owner Stelen Covel moved the restaurant to Main Street in order to expand operations.
Covel wrote in a statement to OU Daily that the restaurant, which serves various different burgers and fries, is no longer profitable.
“We tried to make everything, but the bar was not able to support itself,” Covel wrote. “We are aware that we are not the only local business that is facing these troubles.”
Covel also owns Hollywood Corners on Porter Avenue, which he encouraged patrons to visit. However, a message in the Facebook comments from the restaurant said Hollywood Corners would not begin serving menu items from 405 Burger Bar.
405 Burger Bar is the latest locally owned restaurant to close in Norman. Last week, Penny Hill Deli on Lindsey Street had its final day of service after over 40 years of operation. Similar to 405 Burger Bar, Penny Hill Deli’s owners said the business had become unprofitable.
Last summer, the Service Station shut down in Norman after 44 years. Its owner entered retirement and decided to close the restaurant. Several Main Street businesses, including The Meating Place and Michelangelo’s, also shut down over the summer.
