Trey Kirby won the runoff election for the Ward 5 Norman City Council seat against Dianna Hutzel.
As of 8:19 p.m., with 3,064 votes cast, Kirby earned 53.66% of votes, or 1,644, according to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website. Hutzel earned 46.34%, or 1,420 votes.
On Tuesday evening, Kirby thanked his supporters in a Facebook.
"A huge Thank You for all the support. Thank You to everyone who helped on my campaign. Thank You to everyone whom cast a vote for me. I WILL ALWAYS WORK FOR YOU!" Kirby wrote.
In the Feb. 10 election, Kirby ran against Hutzel and Shai Fenwick for the seat. No candidate received a 50% majority of the vote, so Kirby and Hutzel advanced to the runoff election.
Kirby will replace current Ward 5 Councilmember Brandon Nofire, who was appointed to the seat after former Ward 5 Councilmember Michael Nash resigned in August.
Kirby ran for the Ward 5 seat last year but lost to Nash. As a council member, Kirby said he will frequently ask his constituents their opinions and learn from them, whether they voted for him or not.

Kirby will serve until July 6, 2027, completing Nash’s two-year term.
