Norman firefighters were called to the scene of a large fire at The Commons apartment complex at roughly 3:30 a.m. Nov. 30.
According to Norman Deputy Fire Chief Mike Wilson, the fire affected three floors of a 24-apartment unit. Wilson said several apartments suffered "pretty heavy damage."

Wilson said there was one injury as a result of a fire, when one individual inside the apartment complex attempted to climb out of a third floor apartment on a rope and fell before the fire department arrived.
According to Wilson, the fire department received the call around 3:32 a.m. and arrived roughly three to four minutes later. Wilson said the department used aerial ladder equipment to suppress the fire.
"We probably worked this fire for about an hour before we had it contained," Wilson said. "Whenever we first arrived on the scene, we were focused on getting all the people out of the building, so that consumed our immediate resources right off the bat. Whenever we were sure we had everyone out, that's when we started attacking the fire."
Wilson said the fire department is currently unsure what caused the fire.
"We have our investigators on scene right now, and they're looking to determine the cause, but we don't know anything yet," Wilson said.
