A lot has happened this academic year around the world and in pop culture, so here's The Daily's look back on all of the major events that kept us talking from August to May.
AUGUST:
The world of Broadway was forever changed this August when "Hamilton" premiered. The record-and stereotype-breaking musical has changed Broadway history, and it has become a huge success during 2015. The hip-hop musical won a Grammy and has been nominated for 16 Tony Awards.
SEPTEMBER:
Donald Trump enters the race to become the next president of the United States, and from there, countless memes, sketches and jokes were born.
OCTOBER:
Daniel Craig was James Bond one last time in "Spectre" this October. Action and sci-fi fans exploded with the premier of the first Star Wars trailer, as they tried to piece together what would happen in the newest film.
NOVEMBER:
Adele dropped "25" and broke every record ever. With her first single, "Hello," making waves to the album selling 5 million copies in the first three weeks, Adele pushed the music industry over the top in the last quarter of the year.
DECEMBER:
Although "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" appeared earlier on the list, it was the movie everyone was talking about before and during Christmas break. Rounding out the year with a great film.
JANUARY:
"The Lizzie McGuire Movie" celebrated 15 years since its original release. In other words, millennials are getting older. Hilary Duff now stars in TV Land's new series,"Younger," with Broadway star Sutton Foster.
January also brought the death of legendary singer David Bowie. Bowie's music inspired creativity, bent the idea of gender and cemented him as a pop culture icon. His death led to Lady Gaga's tribute at the Grammy Awards, which will be talked about for years to come.
FEBRUARY:
Leo DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar. Yes, everyone's favorite "Titanic" man finally took home Best Actor for his work in Alexandro Inarritu’s “The Revenant.”
MARCH:
The biggest disappointment in superhero history took place in March: "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice." A little anti-climatic and a lot disappointing. The movie received a 27 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
APRIL:
The unexpected death of Prince, the prince of Pop, brought the royal dynasty of pop to an end. He joined the king (Michael Jackson) and queen (Whitney Houston). The best tribute award must be given to Adam Levine for his "Purple Rain" guitar solo with the help of Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train.
MAY:
The highly anticipated Met Gala kicked off the month. Show-stoppers included Beyonce's skin-tight plastic dress, Claire Danes' glow-in-the-dark gown and Taylor Swift's bleach-blonde punk bob.
