Sooners blanked in first half of Russell Athletic Bowl

Russell Athletic Bowl

The first half of the Russell Athletic Bowl was rough for Oklahoma, to say the least.

After a 65-yard touchdown pass from Clemson’s Cole Stoudt on his first play from scrimmage, the Tigers added to their lead with two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

The first half was marked by poor tackling from the Sooners. Broken tackles allowed Clemson receivers to break away for touchdowns on two separate occasions.

Samaje Perine managed to rumble for 62 yards as one of Oklahoma’s only bright spots. However, in the waning minutes of the half, the freshman fumbled the ball, ending one of OU’s only sustained drives of the night.

Despite Perine’s rushing total, the Sooners’ offensive line had their hands full with Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley and the front seven. Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight was sacked once as Clemson completely shut down the Oklahoma offense.
