Rapid Reaction: Sooners dismantled in bowl loss

Oklahoma was dominated by Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl Monday night. Clemson went 65 yards for a touchdown on its first offensive play and never looked back, defeating the Sooners 40-6.

Key Stat: 5 – A season that began with hopes of a national title ended with five losses for the Sooners. It’s title-or-bust every year in Norman, and this season fell well short of that mark.

Key Player: Cole Stoudt – In what was expected to be a tight matchup, it was thought that Clemson being forced to play backup quarterback Cole Stoudt may give Oklahoma the advantage. It didn't turn out that way. Stoudt was magnificent as he torched the Sooners for 306 yards and three touchdowns.  

What it Means: The bowl beat-down was a fitting cap to a disappointing season for the crimson and cream. It seemed like the Sooners couldn't catch a break all year, and they certainly didn't catch any against Clemson.

What’s Next: Just three months removed from a top four ranking, there may be major changes coming as the Sooners look to bounce back next year. There will be plenty to watch in the offseason as some key players decide whether to stay on at Oklahoma or declare for the NFL draft.
