Freshman running back Samaje Perine broke the NCAA record for most yards in a single game on Saturday, picking up 427 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries. The previous record was 408, and was set a week earlier by Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon.

The Pflugerville, Texas native surpassed Greg Pruitt's OU record of 291 yards in a game in the third quarter. That record had stood since 1971.
Perine picked up his 16th touchdown of the season in the second quarter, breaking the record for most touchdowns by a freshman in OU history.That record was set by Adrian Peterson in 2004.
The true freshman finished the first half with 222 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. His 222 yards were the most yards gained in a single half by an OU player in the history of the program. The previous mark was 210, also set by Peterson.
Perine now has 1,428 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. He is the first back to rush for over 1,000 yards at OU since Demarco Murray in 2010.
