No. 12 Oklahoma (13-0) defeated Prairie View A&M (1-12) 89-67 Sunday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.

The win pushed the Sooners’ winning streak to 13 games. This was OU’s last non conference game before beginning SEC conference play.

Here are three takeaways from the Sooners’ win:

Fears and Miles lead the way early

One week removed from being the leading scorers for the Sooners against Central Arkansas, the guard combo set the pace for OU again in the first half against Prairie View.

Redshirt senior Duke Miles led the way with 13 points. The transfer guard was perfect from the field in the first half, shooting two for two from three and seven for seven from the free throw line. Freshman Jeremiah Fears was right behind with 11 points. The standout freshman guard shot four of seven from the field and three of four from the line.

“I just wanted to continue what I brought in the last game,” Miles said after the game. “The defense gave me good looks and I was able to knock down shots early.”

Fears finished the game with 19 points on seven of 11 shooting from the field. Miles finished with 17 and went four of six from the field, including two of three from three point.

Sooners close first half strong

After a fast start offensively that led to an early nine-point lead, the offense dried up for the Sooners as OU went nearly eight minutes without scoring a basket.

Prairie View was able to cut into the OU lead and bring the gap to within four with 2:15 remaining in the first half, which prompted a timeout by head coach Porter Moser.

Following the timeout, OU closed the half on a 9-2 run to create an 11-point 43-32 lead headed into the locker room at halftime. The run began with a Miles three-point basket. Senior Jalon Moore added four total free throws and Fears contributed a couple of free throws and the half ended on a Panther three-point miss.

Moore rebounds in second half

After a relatively quiet six-point performance in the first half, the senior forward bounced back in a big way in the second half to help lead the Sooners to victory.

Moore scored 16 points on six of eight shooting in 15 minutes in the second half. Moore led all Sooner scorers in the period and was also the game leader for OU. The senior forward finished the game with 22 points on seven of 10 shooting.

Moore also added six rebounds and a block to his statline. The senior has been the second-leading scorer for the Sooners so far this season, averaging 17.3 points per game. Fears leads the way for OU with 18 points per game.

“Pleased with Jalon offensively today,” Moser said after the game. “He had some good finishes in the second half and got to his spots really well (in the second half). I thought he played well today.”

Next, the Sooners begin conference play in their first season in the SEC with a road game against No. 5 Alabama at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 in Tuscaloosa, Al.
