Nwankwo spent two seasons with the Sooners, but did not make a game appearance until the 2025-26 campaign due to an Achilles injury. In that time, he averaged 2.9 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, and 0.7 assists per game.
OU’s offseason began following an 89-82 overtime loss to West Virginia in the College Basketball Crown championship game in Las Vegas. The Sooners managed to make a deep run in the tournament, beating Colorado and Baylor; however, Nwanwko was absent from the trip.
Nwanwko began his collegiate athletics career in 2021 as a wide receiver for the Tulane Green Wave. He did not see any on-field action in his freshman season, prompting him to make the switch from the field to the court. After spending two seasons at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas, he initially committed to California to play basketball. A few days later, he flipped his commitment to OU, signing with the program days later.
Nwanwko is currently out of eligibility, but will likely file an appeal with the NCAA for an additional year, due to his two seasons of junior college action. Nwanwko is the sixth overall departure and the first transfer for the Sooners as the transfer portal period begins on Tuesday.
