Oklahoma (6-6, 2-6 SEC) fell to LSU (8-4, 5-3) 37-17 on Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Here are three takeaways from the Sooners’ loss:

Offensive struggles

Jackson Arnold and the Sooners’ offense struggled after turning in one of their best performances of the season against the Crimson Tide.

Arnold completed 14 of 21 passes for 110 yards. 50 of his passing yards came on one completion to J.J. Hester. Tight end Bauer Sharp threw an interception on a trick play in the third quarter to further LSU’s momentum.

OU’s offensive line allowed four sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Still, the Sooners were able to rush for 167 yards, one touchdown and 4.5 yards per carry.

Poor pass defense

Gracen Halton and R Mason Thomas got the Sooners’ defense started early with a sack and fumble return touchdown.

Following the early score, however, OU’s pass defense struggled to contain the Tigers. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier completed 22 of 31 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns.

While the Sooners held LSU to under four rush yards per carry, the Tigers gained 12.4 yards per completion. LSU receiver Chris Hilton Jr. caught two 40-plus yard touchdown passes. Seven Tigers caught multiple passes.

LSU finished with 395 total yards.

Same ol’ Sooners

Oklahoma’s momentum from a crowd-storming 24-3 win over Alabama last Saturday didn’t carry over to its game against LSU.

The Sooners took a 14-10 lead midway through the second quarter before allowing a 100-yard kick return touchdown on the ensuing kickoff. LSU outscored OU 20-3 from that point forward.
