Oklahoma defensive lineman David Stone has entered the transfer portal after just one season in Norman, On3's Pete Nakos reports.

The freshman was a consensus five-star recruit in the class of 2024 and ranked as the No. 6 prospect in the country by ESPN. Stone appeared in all 13 games for the Sooners last season, recording six total tackles and one sack.

Stone is an Oklahoma native who attended Del City High School before transferring to IMG Academy. He was expected to be a huge contributor to OU's defense in 2025, with head coach Brent Venables assuming play calling duties and looking to build on his top-25 defense.

"There's a lot of challenges you have to deal with, as far as learning the playbook, taking the pressure that comes with the next level of ball," Stone said about his freshman season in a media availability on April 1.

"I let a lot of things outside of football affect the way I was carrying myself," Stone said. "... I feel like this year, I made the jump as a player, being able to dominate ... whether it's in life or football."

Stone departs from a unit that had high expectations for the upcoming season, with freshman Jayden Jackson, seniors Gracen Halton and Damonic Williams returning to the defensive line. They have reacted to the news of Stone's departure on X.

Now, Oklahoma is expected to search for additional talent on the defensive line in the transfer portal. Southeast Missouri's Jaylon Stone is expected to visit OU, per On3.
