Oklahoma was picked to finish 15th of 16 in the SEC Preseason Basketball Poll in its first year in the conference. Alabama was predicted to win the SEC followed by Auburn coming in second and Tennessee finishing third.

The only school predicted to finish behind OU is Vanderbilt, who went 9-23 overall and 4-14 in SEC play in the 2023-24 campaign. Fellow SEC newbie Texas is predicted to finish seventh.

Also released were selections for SEC player of the year and All-SEC team predictions. Alabama senior guard Mark Sears was voted on to be conference player of the year and was also a first-team All-SEC selection. Across three All-SEC teams, no Sooners made the cut.

OU is preparing to enter year four under head coach Porter Moser. The Sooners are still looking for their first NCAA Tournament bid under Moser. Last year, OU finished the year with a 20-12 overall record (8-10 Big 12) after starting the season with a 12-2 record and a top 15 national ranking.

The season officially begins for the Sooners at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Lloyd Noble Center against Lindenwood. OU’s first SEC conference game is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 4, against Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
