OU signee Hudson Head signed with the San Diego Padres for a $3 million bonus on Tuesday, Jim Callis of Baseball America reported Tuesday.
3rd-rder Hudson Head signs with @Padres for $3 mil, record bonus for third round. Pick 84 value = $721,900. Texas HS OF, advanced feel to hit, solid raw power & arm, plus speed. Oklahoma recruit. @MLBDraft

Head was selected with the No. 84 overall pick (third round) in the 2019 MLB Draft, but is set to receive a bonus that is almost $2.3 million higher than the slot value for the pick ($721,900). For comparison, No. 24 overall pick Daniel Espino signed with the Cleveland Indians for $2.5 million.
Head, a left-handed hitting outfielder out of San Antonio, Texas, was one of Skip Johnson’s late commitments for the 2019 class, announcing his commitment to Oklahoma on July 17, 2018. According to Baseball Factory, Head has plus speed for a center field prospect — boasting a 6.63 60-yard dash — and “connects with power driving to all parts of the field” at the plate. Head also maintained batting average over .600 in 2019, which is rare for a high school player, especially in the competitive state of Texas.
“Hudson has tremendous upside,” the scouting report reads.
