Oklahoma women's basketball: Nancy Mulkey to transfer from Sooners

Freshman center Nancy Mulkey has been granted a release from Oklahoma and is expected to transfer, according to a release from OU.

In her first season with the Sooners, Mulkey, a Cypress, Texas, native, appeared in all 33 games and started 18.

She posted averages of 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per contest. Her 62 total blocks last season marked the third-most in a single season by a freshman in Oklahoma history.

At 6-foot-9, Mulkey was the tallest player in the country for her 2016 class and was ranked as the No. 19 overall by ESPN Hoop Gurlz.

As Mulkey looks for a new home, the Sooners will be tasked with replacing her in the middle. Junior centers Vionise Pierre-Louis and McKenna Treece remain as the only two true centers on the Sooners roster.

Oklahoma also recently lost All-Big 12 Freshman Chelsea Dungee to transfer.
