Oklahoma volleyball: Sooners swept in Big 12 opener

Oklahoma lost its Big 12 Conference opener to No. 8 Kansas Wednesday in three sets, 25-17, 25-13, and 29-27.

The loss is the Sooners' fourth straight after starting the season 9-1, dropping them to 9-5. The Jayhawks move to 12-1.

OU was outhit .242 to .092 and had five blocks to Kansas' eight.

Leading Oklahoma's attack was senior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner with eight kills while hitting .208 and a team-high 16 digs.

Junior middle blocker Marion Hazelwood also had eight kills. Redshirt senior outside hitter Madison Ward had seven kills and eight digs.

The Sooners have the weekend off before their conference home opener. They play Texas on Wednesday at McCasland Fieldhouse at 6 p.m.
