Oklahoma Sooners-Mississippi State Bulldogs Baseball

No. 10 Oklahoma (23-5, 5-4 SEC) defeated Texas Tech (8-17, 4-5 Big 12) 8-6 on Tuesday in Frisco, Texas.

With the win, the Sooners improve to 6-1 in midweek games this season. Next, OU hosts No. 7 LSU (26-3, 7-2 SEC) at 6 p.m. Thursday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Oklahoma had a well-rounded game offensively, racking up 14 hits, three home runs, seven walks and five stolen bases. Sophomore infielder Jaxon Willits belted his team-leading eighth home run of the season in the fourth inning. The Sooners used eight pitchers in Tuesday’s win.

Here are things to know from Tuesday’s game:

 

  • Sophomore left-hander Cameron Johnson got the start for OU. He gave up three walks and one run before leaving in the first inning.

  • Freshman right-hander Michael Catalano pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and struck out three batters.

  • Sophomore left-hander/outfielder Gavyn Jones pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball Tuesday. Jones has not given up a run his past three outings.

  • Junior catcher Easton Carmichael made his first appearance in the No. 2 spot this season. Carmichael went 3-for-5 with a home run and three runs batted in.

  • Sophomore infielder/outfielder Jason Walk led off Tuesday’s game with a home run – his fifth of the season and his second leadoff homer.

  • Sophomore outfielder Dasan Harris had a career-high three hits on Tuesday out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup.
