Oklahoma is expected to hire Arkansas State defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling as the linebackers coach, as reported by OU Insider. Dreiling was the interim head coach at Utah State during the 2024 season before he was hired at Arkansas State earlier this year.

Dreiling also has defensive play calling experience from his time at New Mexico State where he was the defensive coordinator for two years. It is expected that Brent Venables will call the defense during the 2025 season, and Dreiling will coach the inside linebackers.

Under Dreiling’s leadership, Utah State’s defense ranked in the top 50 for sacks and interceptions in 2024.

The Sooners’ search for their third defensive coordinator since Brent Venables took over as head coach came after co-defensive coordinator Zac Alley departed after just one season in Norman to accept a defensive coordinator position at West Virginia.
