When it comes to generating money, Oklahoma football is always near the top of the Big 12.

It was no different for fiscal year 2016–17, figures obtained by CNHI's Sean Isabella from the U.S. Department of Education show.

The Sooners raked in $96 million in revenue, coming in behind Texas ($141 million) in the Big 12. Oklahoma's revenue was good for sixth in the Football Bowl Subdivision, while the Longhorns topped all of the FBS. Since the 2012–13 fiscal year, its revenue has increased by $26 million.

When factoring in expenses, OU's football team profited $58 million. The Sooners' expenses have increased from $25 million to $38 million from 2012 to 2017.

In the data obtained, Oklahoma joined Texas and Iowa State as football programs that support their overall athletic budget more than anyone else in the Big 12.

Big 12 Media Days are on July 16–17 at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
