Senior linebacker Frank Shannon wasn't always sure he'd make it back to Oklahoma.
Shannon was accused of sexual assault last year and he was suspended for the entire 2014 season.
He is now back with the team, but linebackers coach Tim Kish supported Shannon through the whole process.
“All I could do was support him. It was a tough thing for him to go through," Kish said. "We got to put it behind us. He always said he wanted to come back."
Shannon went to the University of North Texas to take classes during his suspension. Shannon said all he did was workout and go to school.
Shannon attended Oklahoma's game in Fort Worth, Texas, against the TCU Horned Frogs, but he said it was difficult to watch his team from afar.
"It was pretty tough. I paid attention to a lot of the games," Shannon said. "I still had a playbook, so I looked over the plays."
Fall camp is underway, and Shannon is practicing with the team again. Kish said there's a little rust with the senior linebacker, but he's making steady improvement everyday.
Shannon's return to the field will come Sept. 5 for Oklahoma's season opener against Akron.
