Oklahoma football: Adrian Peterson signs with the New Orleans Saints

Former Sooners running back Adrian Peterson has agreed to terms with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, according to multiple reports.

Peterson, who ran for over 11,000 yards during a decade with the Minnesota Vikings, has agreed to a two year deal with the Saints, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Peterson only played in three games last year due to a knee injury and was released by Minnesota after the season. He is expected to split time in New Orleans with Mark Ingram, the former Alabama star who ran for over 1,000 yards for the Saints in 2016.

Peterson played for the Sooners from 2004 to 2006, running for over 4,000 yards. He had one of the greatest freshman seasons in college football history, finishing second in voting for the Heisman Trophy.

The Saints open the 2017 season at Minnesota on Sept. 11.
