No. 8 OU baseball (19-7, 4-4 SEC) lost to No. 2 Texas (22-4, 6-2 SEC) 4-3 in 10 innings in Austin on Friday.
Here are three takeaways:
Cameron Johnson's strong performance Â
Junior left-handed pitcher Cameron Johnson had a strong performance for the Sooners after struggling in his first two Southeastern Conference series.
Johnson threw 95 total pitches through five innings, giving up only one hit and four walks while securing eight strikeouts and accumulating a 3.00 earned run average.
Johnson performed well in a lackluster pitching performance for the Sooners, with the rest of the bullpen letting up four runs on six hits, eight walks and securing three total strikeouts combined.
Early scores put Sooners in good position
The Sooners set the tone early with three runs in the first five innings, while Texas was held to zero in that timeframe.
In the top of the second inning, sophomore infielder Kyle Branch hit a double to set up two runs for freshman outfielder Alec Blair and junior catcher Deiten Lachance.
However, the Sooners were unable to score for the rest of the game after the fifth inning, which led to Texas coming back for the victory.
Sooners allow Texas to come back late
After OU held Texas to zero runs through the first six innings, the Longhorns scored four runs in the final four innings to come from behind and shock the Sooners.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore pitcher Kadyn Leon and junior Jason Bodin let up four straight walks to give Texas two runs in the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Texas hit a triple in its first at-bat, followed by a single to tie the game at 3-3.
Finally, in the bottom of the 10th inning, Texas managed to get two runners on base, where they would hit a single down the line, leading to the walk-off win by Texas.
