Oklahoma (5-4, 1-4 SEC) defeated Maine (4-5, 2-3 CAA) 59-14 on Saturday in Norman.

Here's what head coach Brent Venables said following the Sooners' win.

On the win in the context of the season

"It's just the next game and next opportunity to improve, and that's what we wanted to see. Today was a byproduct of the last three weeks. We've been talking about seeing their improvement at the spots where, with the first part of the season, we weren't as good.

"... Seeing guys getting better in practice and today was an opportunity to do that against someone else, and do the basics at a high level. (We were) certainly far from perfect, but I thought our guys did the basics well."

On Jackson Arnold

"Incredibly efficient, made a bunch of good decisions and no interceptions, two touchdowns, got it out on time. He ran the ball when he needed to. And those are what makes you difficult to defend when you have the ability, when nothing's there, to find the crease, run through some trash, run through some arm tackles. Jackson has shown that several times this year."

On more explosive plays offensively

"I thought we had good play design, where we're running it or throwing it into the right looks. And we've been behind people, and we haven't connected on the season, but we've been behind people several times, and today we were able to find guys.

"I thought we got into a really good rhythm. We had another really good rhythmatic, really positive week of practice and where guys are understanding the game plan."

On the SEC penalizing teams for faking injuries

"That's good. I think it's good."

On Deion Burks, Jalil Farooq injury status

"They're good. They were out running around here at the end of this last week. So we'll see where they're at here this week."
