Oklahoma (35-1, 13-0 Big 12) defeated Texas (29-6, 9-4) 5-2 on Friday at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.

Oklahoma has won eight consecutive games against the Longhorns and extended its lead in the all-time series to 58-25 and 21-11 in Austin.

Here are three takeaways from the Sooners’ win:

Maxwell remains dominant

The Sooners were led by graduate transfer Kelly Maxwell, who dominated Longhorn bats all night.

The left-handed pitcher continues to show why she’s a dominant part of the Sooners’ pitching staff, allowing her first hit with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Maxwell ran into some trouble in the bottom of the seventh inning after allowing two runs and seeing the tying run come to the plate before forcing a groundout to end the game.

Maxwell earned her fifth complete game of the season, while also matching her season-high in strikeouts with 10. Overall, she threw 114 pitches, 67 for strikes.

With her win tonight, Maxwell improves her record to 11-0 on the season.

Coleman stays hot

Jayda Coleman continues to be Oklahoma’s hottest hitter.

OU started the scoring on an RBI single from the senior outfielder in the top of the third inning. Senior infielder Alyssa Brito drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to give the Sooners their second run of the inning.

In the fifth inning, Coleman blasted her ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field to give the Sooners some breathing room with a 5-0 lead. She drove in four of the five Sooner runs on the night.

The reigning Big 12 player of the week now has four home runs in the last four games while also grabbing eight hits so far on OU’s four-game road trip.

Clean defense

The Sooners did not commit any errors on Friday night.

Led by Maxwell’s 10 strikeouts, Oklahoma’s defense did not need to do much in the field and was very consistent behind Maxwell. The Sooners have not committed an error in the past four games.

Oklahoma will be back in action against Texas at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
