Oklahoma Sooners-Alabama football

Former Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold has committed to Auburn, according to On3 sports. Arnold entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4 after one year as the starter for the Sooners.

Arnold is a former five-star recruit out of Denton, Texas. He played in 10 games during the 2024 season, finishing with 1,421 passing yards, 444 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Arnold was benched during the first conference matchup of the season against Tennessee but returned during the Oct. 19 game against South Carolina and remained the starter throughout the rest of the season.

Arnold was set to visit both Auburn and Mississippi State as potential landing spots but ultimately decided to sign with Auburn upon their meeting.

Oklahoma now has only two scholarship quarterbacks on its roster for the upcoming season, three-star commit Jett Niu and freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. Hawkins has expressed his enthusiasm and loyalty to the Sooners amid many transfer portal departures.

“I want to be at Oklahoma,” Hawkins said. “This is where I want to be. I want to play at Oklahoma and be a quarterback at Oklahoma.”

Hawkins will be the starter for Oklahoma’s bowl game against Navy on Dec. 27 in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. He will also be competing for the starting quarterback position with any potential transfers Oklahoma lands in the portal.

On Sept. 20, Arnold will return to Norman when Hawkins and Oklahoma face Auburn in the first conference game of the upcoming season at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
