The OU Provost Office has announced the fall 2019 Presidential Dream courses.
The Presidential Dream courses, which are courses chosen each year to be provided with extra funds to enhance courses, will be Evolution and Society, Rematriation of Indigenous Epistemologies in Education and The Listening Project, according to the Presidential Dream Course website.
According to the Dream Course website, Evolution and Society will look at evolution and whether or not society’s understanding of evolution will lead to an improved society. The Rematriation of Indigenous Epistemologies in Education will study how Indigenous knowledge has shaped institutional education and The Listening Project teaches active listening in a society where technology hinders our listening skills.
The extra funds provided to Dream courses are typically used to bring professionals to campus to lecture to provide deeper understanding in the courses chosen, said Director of Operations Grey Allman.
“The Presidential Dream courses provide an opportunity to bring scholars and world-renowned experts to OU,” Allman said. “Faculty bring people to campus from academia and industry that provide different perspectives or knowledge that students might not otherwise get to hear.”
The guests also take part in a public lecture or event in which the wider OU community can benefit from their expertise, Allman said.
The Presidential Dream Course program was founded in 2004 by former OU President Boren and provides a maximum fund of $20,000 for the selected courses to bring in several experts to interact with students and give lectures, according to the website.
Applications for the dream courses are submitted each fall and are chosen and announced before enrollment of the semester they are being offered opens, Allman said.
