From Pride festivities to Cinco de Mayo celebrations, check out what there is to do in Norman and Oklahoma City for the first weekend of May.

Norman

Norman Pride Festival, events Friday through Sunday: This year’s theme is “Roots in Rainbows” with live music, vendors, food trucks and more. For more information about the festivities, visit Norman Pride’s website.

  • The Stride of Pride 5k and Fun Run: 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Ruby Grant Park, with tickets available online.

Contemporary Dance Oklahoma, 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: Watch modern dance with pieces choreographed by award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown and School of Dance faculty at Elsie C. Brackett Theatre. Tickets are available online.

Mom Prom, 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday: Mom Prom offers an early Mother’s Day experience to honor moms. Bring your kid, friend, family or special date for a night of dancing at the NOUN Hotel. There will be three dances, including a sensory-friendly option and a 21+ experience. Tickets are available online. 

Spring Concert: Poetry in Song, 7 p.m. Saturday: The Norman Singers’ spring concert will feature poetry and literary texts set to music. The concert will be held at First Baptist Church of Norman.

Oklahoma City

Cinco de Mayo Festival, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday: The Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Scissortail Park. The event will uplift Mexican heritage through music, dance and food.

First Friday Gallery Walk, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday: Browse local artwork, meet artists and enjoy live music during the Paseo Arts District's monthly art walk. The event is free, and parking is available in the area and surrounding neighborhood.

Farmers Market at Scissortail Park, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday: Taking place at the corner of Oklahoma City Boulevard and South Robinson Avenue, the market features baked goods, pet products, fresh produce, plants and more from over 60 vendors.

OKC Cinco De Mayo, 2 to 11 p.m. Sunday: Held in celebration of the historic Battle of Puebla, where Mexican forces defeated the French Army, the festival will feature live performances from dancers and artists across Latin America, children’s activities and traditional foods at Crossroads Renewal Project. The festival schedule is available online.  

Ongoing events

Stories & Specimens, 11 a.m. to noon Saturday until July 19, Norman: Families are invited to gather for an engaging program with museum objects for children to touch, connecting stories to science and cultural history. The experience is free with admission at Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. 

Route 66: From Trails to Truck Stops, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oklahoma City: The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum’s exhibition tells the story of the historic Route 66, which was part of the first federal highway system and became a symbol of freedom and adventure. Tickets are available online. 

Jakian Parks: The Black Land, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Monday until June 1, Oklahoma City: Visit artist Jakian Parks’ latest exhibition exploring the history and cultural legacy of Black equestrianism at Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center. The museum is free to attend and tickets are not required.

Sunday Jazz Brunch, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oklahoma City: Listen to live jazz at Tellers while enjoying lemon buttermilk pancakes and other brunch favorites.

Hosty at The Deli, 10 p.m. Sunday: Enjoy the music of Hosty, a local one-man band, at The Deli on Campus Corner. You can RSVP online. Fans can check out his appearance on Copeland Corner, OU Daily’s music segment.
