Stuck car and driver

A car was towed down North Oval after a Lyft driver followed his GPS direction to turn onto OU’s campus Tuesday evening.

Four OU Police Department officers responded to the scene, where a black Mazda with Texas license plates had been parked on a set of stairs next to Evans Hall.

The driver, Ewin Fortner, said he was driving, following the directions his GPS was providing, down the alley between Bizzell Memorial Library and Evans Hall. He thought the road was wide enough to fit his car and turned left heading toward North Oval. 

“I said, ‘I can’t back up,” Fortner said, laughing and gesturing. “I’m just driving and then next thing you know, BOOM.”

By the time Fortner realized where he was, he was unable to back up and opted to try and drive down the stairs. There, the car got stuck and police were called.

A small group of students watched as a tow truck from the L&A Wrecker Service backed up to the Evans Hall stairs, past Carnegie Hall down North Oval. 

Ultimately, OUPD officers drove the car down a small hill by Evans Hall, driving the car down North Oval. Fortner drove toward Boyd Street after officers returned his keys.

No one was hurt in the incident. OU Daily reached out to OUPD for a statement and will update this story when once is released.
